Dorothy Draper was born November 22, 1889, in Tuxedo Park, New York. She is an American interior decorator. Her style consists of anti-minimalist; she used very bright colors and used large prints that covered whole walls. She is well known for large floral prints in bright colors with a contrast of striped walls. She used these techniques to brighten up her rooms. She incorporated black and white tiles, rococo scrollwork, and baroque plasterwork into her Hollywood Regency style of interior decoration. Dorothy career started when she was designing her own homes. Later she went and started Architectural Clearing Housing in 1925. She did lots of big projects like the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan, the Drake in Chicago, the Fairmount in San Franciso, etc. Unfortunately, her style slowly faded and became less popular as the years went on but still has a huge impact on the culture in many hotels.

Why I am inspired by Dorothy Draper
I find Dorothy Draper so fascinating. From her ideas about bright color to her ideas about using big prints, I find her work to be unique and different from a lot of other designers. The quote, “If it looks right, its right” is something she went by when making designs and I think it is so important when making your own designs to be confident with it. If someone thinks their design looks and feels right, then it is. Dorothy is such an inspiration when it comes to making different and interesting designs and that is why I chose to admire her.
